So Thats whats happening with Ronaldinho. Perhaps.
By: Rob | April 6th, 2008Yesterday after he suffered yet-another-injury amongst a back drop of hearsay and rumour (that his injury wasn’t entirely real) I posed the question, What is going on with Ronaldinho. It appears, we may be a little closer to knowing. After news last night from La Gazzetta Dello Sport that Milan were offically courting Ronaldinho, news is just breaking on Channel 4 that the Italian club has made an offical offer, to the tune of £16m.
The Brazilian is clearly unsettled at Camp Nou, and while rumours persist and are denied of a falling out with manager Frank Rijkaard, the club appears to be in damage control now, worrying about how much they will be able to get for the player, who’s brother (and agent) has not ruled out the player buying out his contract and leaving on a free, he would be the first superstar to invoke the all new controversal clause.
Milan apparently aren’t keen on the controversy that would bring, and want to buy the player in the traditional way, although they are obviously going to get him at a cut price, as they will just pay The Dhino to buy out his contract, presumably if Barca push it.
For reference, it would cost Ronaldinho £10m to become the worlds most saught-after free agent. So Milan’s current offer looks like something that the Catalan club can’t refuse. They aren’t the only club in for the player however, Roman Abromovich is a big fan (and tried buying the player for £60m when The Dhino had peaked) and Juve and Inter are supposedly keeping tabs on the situation. Don’t rule out Man United either, who wanted him last time out, or any club Jose Mourinho will join, he is reputedly also a big fan of the player.

Seems a low number.

It’s not low, because he sucks.

Really mele? I’d pay 16m to have in him my side, wherever I was managing. Imagine he could recapture that 2004/5 form. Class.

Would like to see him in Chelsea shirt if price is 10M.He will create havoc if he recaptures 04/05 season form.

As if the amount of money matters to Chelsea! I imagine to Roman there is not much difference between 10 and 30 million pounds really.

I kind of agree with mele, actually—he obviously doesn’t “suck”, but he’s been so erratic and fragile for last couple of years that I don’t think 2006 prices still apply. £16m sounds low, but it’s not a risk-free investment.
I still wouldn’t be surprised if he wound up going for considerably more to a club like Chelsea, of course. Personally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Ronaldinho-Lampard midfield. Pure comic gold.

I’ll agree its not risk free – particuarly if it is his attitude that is the problem, though that might not be the case anyway.
I do think though that considering two or three years ago he was easily the best footballer on the planet it is essentially a bargin. He should theoretically be at his peak as well, I just reckon something’s happened at Barca that noone really knows about.
A thought – Imagine in two years you could get Kaka’ or Ronaldo for that price? I reckon you’d take it.

Yeah, I obviously don’t think he really sucks.
He’s a good player with plenty of skill, but his golden days are over. He is no longer a goal-scoring-legendary-machine.
He’s just another big name going down the toilet. Frankly, 16m is high for his recent performance, in my opinion. But that is purely his recent performance, not taking into account any sort of re-bound or anything like that. But really, managers were throwing around numbers like 45m, 60m before, and look now what he’s going for…Posted from

That’s just it though mele, 16 seems low, because it was only 3 or 4 years ago that 60m was being seriously turned down.
He’s also only going that cheap because of the whole buying out his contract thing – I reckon without it he would still be going to a heck of alot of money with a few years left on his contract
