Champions League QF Draw: Liveblog

By: Rob | March 14th, 2008

Assuming that I can get the Uefa website to stream the CL Draw, I’m going to make my first attempt at trying to liveblog the event. Be gentle and I’m sure we’ll get through this together.
To see the draw yourself go here

Here’s hoping for a good draw in around, ten minutes (though its bound to be late, and my streaming even slower)

Ok at the moment, I’m getting the CL Hymn on repeat because the draw hasn’t started yet. So presumably the ceremony starts at 12 not just the draw.

Interestingly, they are also going to draw out the semi finals today, presumably because they are too cheap/lazy to hold another ceremony, I’d just like to say right now – Uefa that’s rubbish. You’re ruining the excitement a potential Sem-Eye final draw might have.

OK, I’ve been on 5 minutes, and all i’ve heard thus is the snippet of the Champions League hymn they always play on TV over and over. Come on UEFA!

Ooh its starting, I’m getting juddery clips of Maldini! Horray!

“We will see a short video on each of the teams in a moment” No no no, draw the teams! You can read my offside page for a preview UEFA! my internet is struggling with this, so i may be slightly behind.

UEFA actually can’t be bothered to show streamers the actual video of the tournament so far, so we just have a man telling us about it. Oh no, hang on here it is. Was just my internet.

Ho-ho the man commentating for us, just said Chelsea’s ground was Old Trafford. Fool. He correcting himself quickly.

Now we are hearing about what Moscow looks like, because you know, the final is in Moscow. Lovely. I think I speak for everyone when I say, get on with it!

I’ve lost video, but I still have audio.

They are ready to procceed! Horray.

First name’s out of the hat:

Arsenal!

They’ll be home first leg against Liverpool

first all english QF

Roma are out next. They’ll be home first leg, against – Manchester United

Well, we knew that might happen… Oh dear.

Schalke are drawn next – They have Barca. Harsh!

Fenerbahce are drawn at home against Chelsea.

First legs are on the 1st and 2nd of April.

Games are

Arsenal Vs Liverpool

Roma Vs Man United

Schalke Vs Barcelona

Fenerbahce Vs Chelsea.

Now the Semi Draw

Arsenal or Liverpool will play Fener or Chelsea.

Schalke or Barca will play Roma or Manchester United in the Semi final.

The winner of the second semi final will be considered the ‘home’ side in the final

Reaction to the draw:

Well we did get one all-English QF, Arsenal against Liverpool, who play each other right in the middle of thier CL games. Which is a bit rubbish.

Roma probably didn’t want Man United again, but it is yet another chance to atone for last years game. The only thing that bothers me is that the English commentators will go on and on and on about last year’s result again. Which is no fun for anyone.

Looks like Chelsea and Barca should get through. But then who knows, maybe another upset is on the cards.

Looking forward to it, despite I guess, a slightly dissapointing draw.

It really is a good draw for Barca. They’re in a vulnerable position now, missing Messi, but they should be able to handle Schalke.

Barca, probably the strongest team left, have drawn probably the weakest team left. C’est la vie!

Hi – Nathan the Fenerbahce fan here. Congrats on the draw! I wanted to let you know that you will likely have a tough time finding Fenerbahce info. in English, but we have the world’s first English-language website for the club – http://www.fenerbahceworldwide.org. It’s updated usually several times a day on the club. Please check it out if you get a chance! Thanks and good luck, Blues!

    Alrite Nathan

Chelsea has never played Fenerbache and you got one of our ex-players Kezman who will sure get a warm welcome when you come to Stamford Bridge. Although Kezzer didn’t score many goals for us he was well loved by the fans. Am looking forward to the tie. Wont be in Turkey but I will be there at Stamford Bridge!!!

    (PS Bookmarked you)
