Draws are out
By: Adam | August 4th, 2007Finally the draws for third qualifying round are out. British clubs have got interesting draws where as Spanish clubs have fairly easy draws. Matches will be played on 14/15 Aug (1st leg) and 28/29 Aug (2nd leg).
Draw:
BATE Borisov v Steaua Bucharest
Tampere United or v Rosenborg
Spartak Moscow v Celtic
Werder Bremen v Dinamo Zagreb
FC Salzburg v Shakhtar Donetsk
Ajax v SK Slavia Prague
Valencia v IF Elfsborg
FK Sarajevo v Dynamo Kiev
Fenerbahce v Anderlecht
Rangers v FK Crvena Zvezda
Toulouse v Liverpool
Benfica v FC Copenhagen
Lazio v Dinamo Bucharest
Sparta Prague v Arsenal
FC Zurich v Besiktas
Sevilla v AEK Athens
If I have to pick one tie that will be the most fascinating to watch in whole 3rd qualifying round then it will be Spartak Moscow v Celtic. Celtic FC have wonderful squad with their free kick specialist Nakamura who can easily score in any dead ball situation. Spartak is the most successful team in Russian Premier League history. They have Luzhniki Stadium as their home ground which will be hosting this season’s final match. Since Luzhniki Stadium has artificial pitch, it will be difficult for Celtic FC to play away from home.
Arsenal will be playing against Sparta Prague who have an ample experience in CL. In 2005-06 when Gunners reached final of CL, they played Sparta in group stages beating them 5-0 on aggregate.
Liverpool on the other hand have got relatively unknown Toulouse FC. Sevilla will be playing against AEK Athens which is one more interesting fixture.
The countdown for final group stages has begun. Can’t wait till 30th Aug when draws for group stages will be out. By the way which of these teams you think will be reaching group stages?
Update: Second qualifying round is over. Fixture table is updated. On 29th of August we will have “last” 32 teams.

I’m glad it’ll be fascinating for the neutrals, cause watching that first leg will be slow torture for me!

JT thanks for visiting. Well, away leg for any fan is torture especially if its on artificial turf.

I’m slightly worried about Bremen’s situation. They’ve been inconsistent in the preseason and with Frings’ injury, they have to play smartly over the two legs.

Lubaba,
They have enough quality even without fings. I dont think at home they can be beaten. Although some of the stars have left this season still they are difficult team to play.Posted from

I’d say mixed fortunes for Spain rather than easy draws, given Sevilla’s fixture.
Valencia look okay, through.
