FC Barcelona 2:0 Manchester United FC

By: Sam | May 27th, 2009

Quick analysis …

Earlier today it was conceivable that Barça would play beautiful football and even win, but few would have predicted they would give Manchester United a footballing lesson and steal the oxygen away from this English side through midfield possession, but it’s true.

Barça took the ball and stole all Manchester United’s fabled rhythm to the extent that United looked disheveled for most of the time and, except for a few times in the first eight minutes, hardly threatened goal.

Scoreline: Samuel Eto’o hammered a toe-poke by van der Saar after making Vidic look silly in the box in the 10th minute; Lionel Messi scored from his head on a Barça counter attack off a lovely ball from Xavi Hernandez in the 70th.

Surely, events will quell sounds for Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or and Messi will be Player of the Year. Furthermore, you have to wonder how this influences Ronaldo’s potential move to Real Madrid.

Tonight in Rome, football was the winner. Soon now, we’ll bring in links from all over to discuss the ebb & flow of play, the ins & outs and ups & downs. For the time-being, the text of the Liveblog is available, below.

Our condolences to Wayne and all at manu.theoffside. Manchester United support world-wide have been all class, admitting the better team won tonight.

No one can stop the new and sensational GOD of football ‘Sir Messi’. And no club can stop Barcelona.
I use to be a very srong fun of Arsenal. For the past seven years we have not achieved anything. Therefore, I moved to support Barcelona after our lost to man U. KUDOS to my new Club Barcelona.

    Karl Yussif-

I would enjoy Barça but stay with Arsenal. With Arshavin (and perhaps with the addition of a Makelele-type holding midfielder), they will keep progressing.

Why do you think Wenger has turned down Real Madrid? Because Arsenal is doomed? That’s as clear a sign as any of better things to come at Emirates.

Silverware is one measure of success. Personally, I think it is an big achievement for Arse to have stayed in the Top Four this year, given their money, defense & on-field leadership problems.

Arshavin, in my opinion, is going to be recognized as the best player in the world within the next few years. So much so that I believe he might be dueling it out with v.Persie AND Fabregas for the Ballon d’Or within very little time.

Do watch Arsenal! And also, watch Russia in 2010!

Kasia- Messi even lost his boot in landing that gyroscopic entry into the far panel from Xavi’s swerving cross. The best!
