Is it greedy to want it to be just as good the second time?
By: Nathan | May 2nd, 2007I wrote like a school-girl with a crush after last week’s gem, and you know what? I will happily do it again. This game even has my dad debating taking the day off to watch, and that’s saying something. But the power of technology allows us all to Tivo and watch live after work (UPDATE - be sure to record the show after the game on ESPN2 in case of shoot-out - I MISSED the shootout yesterday b/c Tivo only reads the initial timeslot - rookie mistake by a veteran I know.) - tho do you realize how many websites you CANNOT visit to stay in a knwoledge void?!?! Anyway, we have every reason to believe this game will be just as pulsating. Milan needs to win outright and ManU needs to get on the board to try and negate 2 away goals.
Manchester United @ AC Milan LIVE on ESPN2 @ 2:30pm ET
So let’s get right to stories floating around the internet machine:
* for Milan Gattuso has the green light - Ronaldo beware - actually this headline sums it up nicely (from Sportingo).
* 2 notes about the San Siro - first it’s a sell-out, second no Peroni for you! Note, “However there remains widespread doubt that the alcohol ban in Milan will be respected.” You don’t say?
* Injury news for ManU - Rio, Vidic, Neville are back in - only Neville looks set to start.
* But for Milan the Captain is out
* Ancelotti waxing poetic like Orwell with his ‘Utopian dream..”
* Scholes doesn’t fear a repeat of 1999, would Keano be so calm?
* Want to feel the excitement minute by minute? Follow along with a BBC scribe in Milan.
So who will it be to join Liverpool in Athens? All Engerland or a rematch of 2005? Either way it will be exciting. Milan has the system that seems to be clicking most right now, while ManU features 2 of the most feared individual performers on the planet. It really is a toss-up - any outcome could not suprise anyone (except for a route!). With that said I will defer to my natural inclination to watch teams from different countries…so Milan win 2-1 today and secure a rematch in Athens…or not!
Enjoy everyone!
For those of you already looking ahead to next year…

A couple of questions because I’m too lazy to search for the answers myself. First, where is the final held next year? And second, do you think Liverpool has secured a one seed with their victory yesterday?

The final next year will be at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, which should be interesting since it has fake turf.

Brian - Based on UEFA team rankings, that look at 5 years of history, Liverpool is assured a #1 seed if they hit the group stages. Here is a great site from a guy named Bert Kassies that shows the ranking for this year, impacting the draw for next season’s CL:

When we crown a champion this year, I’ll dive into the process and rankings for next year - it’s a great question. And thanks Bob for the Moscow quick hit - we can only hope for snow and an orange ball!

Fake turf? Ugh. I can hear the knee ligaments tearing already.
