Kezman: ‘Where is Special One?’
By: Sam | April 4th, 2008
Mateja Kezman, Serbian & ex-Chelsea, had some insightful comments about the shape of his old team against Fenerbahçe this week. He put voice to something that was likely on all our our minds.
“If Mourinho had been in charge of the match against us it would have been different. He is a very different coach and in the time of Mourinho there were no surprises, no mistakes … Now you can see something is not working. If Frank Lampard goes out of the game after 75 minutes it means something is wrong.”
Added Kez:
“We’d watched the last couple of games and against Middlesbrough and Sunderland they made four or five mistakes in both games. There’s not the same spirit in the team any more. It’s not the machine it used to be. This is our opportunity.”
It suggests Avram Grant’s job is an impossibility wrapped in a lose-lose situation.
Kezman, whose disappearance against Chelsea this week reminds us of his fleeting time in Southwest London (though to be fair he was a top scorer while at PSV in the Eredivisie), went on to praise Zico:
“Zico is magnificent. It’s unbelievable to work with him. He was a massive player and everything he says I want to listen to. At half-time … Zico just explained to us we’d done nothing and shown them too much respect. He said, ‘Play your football, show what you can do, enjoy this game’.”
Zico is clever. Look for both Kezman and Kazim — the two Yellow Canaries with English experience — to feature during the 2nd leg at Stamford Bridge this week.

AG will always live in shadows of Jose. Even if he wins all the trophies.
