Liverpool – 4, Arsenal – 2

By: Sam | April 8th, 2008

Gerrard versus HlebBreathless, open match of football. Tireless Dirk Kuyt is my Man of the Match.

More comment to follow from Adam, but Liverpool bossed the game. It will have given them a lift to play toward the Kop in the 2nd half when, from minute 45 through the half-hour, they closed down Arsenal through tight marking and knocking on their heels.

Hyypia’s header — hang it on Senderos for loose marking — was a Goal of the Week which bent and rang off the inside of the upright from a good distance (and will have inspired teammates to get one of their own).

Adebayor equalized at two in the 84th from a long dashing exploit, box-to-box, by Walcott. But Gerrard closed it off a minute later at 3-2 from the spot (Babel had flopped convincingly after a tugging by Adabayor Kolo Toure [correction kindly provided by reader, Allessandro]). Stevie’s take was smooth, firm & effortless to his upper left corner, and the Kop sang “Steve Gerrard Gerrard” (borrowing the melody of Que Sera Sera).

Liverpool go on to play Chelsea on April 22nd in the Champions League Semi-Final.

    I swear, I have so much regard for Steven Gerrard. CabageMan Capello should build a team of Under-21s around him.

    I fear that England is full of Ashley Cole-types: fearful, tentative, negative, unimaginative, predictable, one-footed amazing athletes.

    The “tugging” (if you can call it that) was by Kolo Toure… not AdEbayor…

    @Sam,
    Yeah Capello should build his U21 side around St. Steve “Me” Gerrard. All the other players will be indesciplined in their positions. They will be looking for hollywood passes. And they will go missing in big matches especially the qualifiers. After all they will follow their St. Gerrard who’ll the leader. :P
