Ronaldinho: It Won’t Just Go Away

By: Rob | April 16th, 2008

Ronaldinho doesn’t know where he’s goingSo to recap, It all looked a bit odd at Barca, when news broke that Milan wanted to bring the Brazil forward to the San Siro. It all looked cut and dry about 4 days ago – The Dhino was to wear the Rossoneri. But its not materialised yet. What is going on?

Just after it looked like Milan had it tied up, thier inter-city rivals Inter turned up and stuck thier nose in. Morrati, the Inter main-man has a habit of speaking without thinking, and is slightly crazy, so I sort of dismissed what he said. Which was:

“If Ronaldinho goes to Milan, it will be because of the willingness of Inter”

So I sort of glossed over it. But the transfer hasn’t gone through. Its been reported all over the place that Milan have agreed a deal with The Dhino, but haven’t with Barca – frankly I was under the impression that kind of thing was against the rules, but with this whole players-buying-out-thier-contracts-thing its actually endorssing tapping up isn’t it? – which would leave the door open for anyone else to agree a price with the Catalan club. Inter are of course offering Champions League football, whereas Milan may only be able to offer the UEFA cup.

Now Ronaldinho’s agent, who is also his brother, says Milan have “an advantage” over Inter. I dunno what this could be, as he doesn’t say. It doesn’t make a massive amount of sense to me on paper. They can offer the same wages presumably, and Inter are doing better in the league, and can offer Champions League football. So there must be something going on that we don’t know about (unless its just that Ricky Kaka’ and Pato are there and he’ll feel more at home with a club that isn’t ArgenInter)

I know this is an outside shot, and me reading between the lines, mixing my metaphors and getting wrong end of the stick, but maybe, just maybe Ronaldinho has been promised this man in Milan. Might be enough to convince him to join that side of the tracks right?

I can’t see the Special One being a lure. I think he’s going to AC Brazilan, and it’s all over but the shouting. It’s sure nice to know that he won’t be screwing up the world over in the Camp Nou locker room next season, I can tell you that.

Kxevin, you make sense. I was going to suggest that whomever has tied up Mourinho would make a difference; but I do not see Ancelotti leaving AC Brazilan.

And then Ronaldo drags his kneeless self back so that devotees of RAI broadcasts can hear Ronaldo AND Ronaldinho in the same sentence.

He’ll also be able to give Super Pippo another year or so of life with his feeds into the box. Pato will feed like a crazy man.

It’s a good move for AC Milan, and for us. They’ll get their 2-3 years, then he’ll be off to somewhere else.

Plus, I’m still hoping that we’re in the Mourinho sweepstakes. But it’s doubtful. Buzz is that Ronaldinho and Deco are going because Rijkaard is staying in some capacity.

The Deco situation is stranger than the Ronnie one in its own way because there’s been a hell of alot of talk about the Dhino situation, from him, his agent and the club, but with Deco its like a wall of silence as far as I can see.

That’s because Deco doesn’t kiss and tell, Rob. He’s a gentleman.

And there’s a LOT less buzz about Deco, who is also a discipline problem in that he picks up a lot of yellow cards for silly things. Every now and again a club will pop up, most recently Ajax. But Deco is the kind of player who isn’t that global superstar type, but fans of the side he lands at will be over the moon. He’s still one of the best attacking mids on the planet (when he’s on). When he’s off, he’s just a sulky, late-tackling pain in the butt.

I’ll be sorry not to see him in the colors next season, but Yaya has changed a great many things for us, all for the better, I think.

I for one still really rate Deco. He has always talked about playing in the Prem someday, so maybe he’ll end up at Chelsea or somewhere. You are right about the yellow cards thing though, you would be buying him thinking he was going to miss one in every six or seven cos of suspension!
