‘Shevchenko not welcome’ say Milan Ultras

Poor old Andriy Shevchenko. Once he was the best striker in Europe, scaring the hell out of defenses while in his Milan shirt. Then he decided he’d go play for his friend Roman Abromovich, only it hasn’t worked out well at Chelsea. And now, apparently Milan fans don’t want him to return to the San Siro.
Remember when he was the best striker around? When anyone would have him in thier side? Remember how excited/afraid Prem fans were when he signed for Chelsea? It all seems along way off now.
Last night a Milan Unltra group – Old Clan – staged a protest against the clubs transfer plans, included the often mooted bringing back of Shevchenko to the club.
Because Serie A clubs are only able to sign one player from outside the EU every season, and Sheva would fill this criteria, fans are reluctant to take the former-favourite back because at 32 years old, they feel the club should be looking to the future.
“We absolutely rule out Shevchenko, who is 32 and would fill the only non-EU slot, preventing Milan from signing a younger and better player” came the statement from the supporters pressure group.
Mind you, with Milan now offically courting Ronaldinho so heavily maybe Sheva is out of luck anyway (unless the Dhino has a EU passport from his time in Spain, maybe someone can clear that one up for me)

I don’t see the Ultras’ statement as bitter but practical.
It is also interesting to look at why a Sheva could not fit in at Chelsea. I don’t believe his form was that bad; or that his effort was merely to blame.
There’s a theory it has something to do with Chelsea’s paripatetic pace and tendency to play only at the fever pitch with little pluck & variation.

I don’t think he was ever wanted by Jose, and so he was completely underused and never given a chance to settle in. I hoped under Avram he might start getting a bit fo first team, but Grant favours the one up front as well, which leaves Sheva lost

It was the wrong move. Period. Him going to Chelsea was exciting at first, but then it didn’t go through as planned.

Its a shame. Sheva had his best game for Chelsea in the 4-4 draw against Aston Villa last Boxing Day where he scored two and made one other. Then he got injured and four months on just about makes the subs bench – he was on it yesterday against Man City.

The big question, is where the hell he goes next? I’d like to see him stay in the Prem to prove away the doubters, but I’m not sure who would buy him. The MLS? A different Italian club?

1)I Would be pissed to no end if Milan bought ‘dinho.
I’d stop watching their games.

If he left Chelsea it would be sad and a waste of talent… wherever he went I wish him well… as I said he wasn’t a Mourinho ’sigining.’ His Chelsea time has proved it!!

Milan love to buy players who are unsettled at big teams, who at one point were amazing players.
Examples: Ronaldo, Emerson, Cafu.. and they’re looking at : Sheva, Ronaldinho..
Ronaldo, was a good buy, I believe, but his problem is that he’s so injury-prone.. At the end of the day, Ronaldo is Ronaldo, when he’s not injured. Soo, good buy, imo.
Emerson, wasn’t such a good buy. He’s barely used, and when he is, nothing great happens. Not the Emerson that was in Roma.
Sheva’s had 2 very bad seasons, with not much play time and I don’t think a move to Milan will do any side good. Ideal move: USA because 1) wife would be happy, 2) he doesn’t need to put so much effort, 3) money.. From Milan’s view, they don’t need another 30+ year old striker, even tho it’s the great Sheva.
Ronaldinho’s had a bad season this year, but again, Dinho is Dinho. If he’s not very injury-prone and physically fit, then I don’t mind seeing him in red and black. He works well in a 4-3-3 formation, when he was playing with Messi and Eto’o. So the attacking line would be Dinho – Kaka – Pato.. Seems good to me..

Everyone lost the patience with Sheva. Fans, coaches and managers. Grant has changed nothing from Mourinho’s team. Mourinho’s teams are like machines. They are strong sides with great emphasis on physical attributes of the game. I think Sheva was misfit. He now a days plays in reserves or sits on benches. It doesn’t take too much to make one of the most feared strikers to the just squad player.

His record actually isn’t that bad for Chelsea – 19 goals in 43 appearances is almost 1 in 2 and when you consider most of those were off the bench, I actually think he’s handled it rather well. Especially when he could easily have kicked up a fuss but he’s kept his head down with dignity.

I would be VERY interested to read about these two years in Chelsea… Andriy should publish a book, a la Lamapard and the rest of Premiership primadonnas, where he will tell us what happened.
Few points:
1. There is a prevalent opinion between football fans that Drogba’s last year success (30+ goals) was due to Shevchenko arrival, both motivational and strategical. They NEVER played together since… Why?
2. After he took that “faithful” trip on Milan’s bus, his minutes not just seemed to dwindle, they disappeared.
3. You can say whatever you want about Premiership, but he is the most experienced player in Chelsea squad for the CL encounters. He is not even a sub.
4. Anelka is a good lad, but he is not better then 31 year old Shevchenko. Still, he gets a nod while Shev left to play golf.
5. SHevchenko was working on his sprints in order to return to his best (whatever it means) with trainer. I can understand Jose reluctance in letting him do it, but Grant, who claimed just a year ago that he can turn things around for Shev, not letting to do just that… Big question mark.I hope it won’t take John Le Carre to wright a book about this turmoil.
And yes, come home. To Milan. You will be always welcome.

Sam – oooh harsh. I still reckon he could be great at any top club to be honest. Its just where would pay his wages.
Chubby – I get the feeling that because of Sheva’s friendship with Red Rom and the fact he’s a bit classier than the Ashley Cole’s of this world, we probably wouldn’t see that book. I’d read it though.
Perhaps Sheva and Drogba fell out, and Drogba was the prefered option (god knows why, frankly). I do think the flirting with Milan has cost him though, badly which is a shame.

Yes, they can sign them both, the only question is: are they needed? As far as a sportsmanship goes I rate Sheva highly, and he doesn’t seem to spoil that locker room atmosphere. As for Dinho… It can be another case of Rivaldo. We have Kaka, he is a center piece of the puzzle called Milan. Like in Highlander: There be only one!

Y’all can have Ronaldinho. You’ll get a good year or two out of him before the “complexities” begin. So live it up. I’d take R10 over Shevchenko all day, even with the uncertainties he’s manifested for our Blaugrana hearts this season. When he’s good, he’s among the best.
