Chelsea FC - 2, Fenerbahce SK - nil
By: Sam | April 8th, 2008
I was hoping for more from the talented Brazilians — ehr-ehm, Turks.
Uneventful game. See the BBC live text. UPDATE: How wrong I was. The game tape is gripping. There are long spells in the mid- to late-2nd half when the Turks dominate and patiently look very close to equalizing. I am still impressed by Fenerbahce; they adapted to athletic Chelsea and shut them in for a most of the match (until it was do or die time when Chelsea successfully countered). Applause, applause Fenerbahce SK. Applause, Chelsea!
Pictured: Michael Ballack scores a 3rd minute glancing header off a Frank Lampard free kick from the right side. Lampard added the second in the 87th minute against the run of play from Michael Essien who courageously got to the base line in the box.
Chelsea sees Liverpool on April 22nd in the 1st leg of the Champions League Semi-Finals.

I felt like FB was kind of afraid of the Chelsea name. Whenever they pushed forward, it was an even game. Obviously, Chelsea has more talented players dmeonstrated by higher conversion rates of possession into serious chances.
Lugano had another great game. Likely to be a target for rich European clubs this summer.

Sporel-
Yes! They were conserving until late. They dominated soundly though, it seemed, when they decided it was necessary. They ooze that competence and played very much within themselves.
Fenerbahce very easily could have gone through. Credit Chelsea, though. It was closer than the score indicates.
Lugano, Aurelio, Alex & Demarel impressed. Each could play in England or Italy if they want — especially now after this showcase.
