Last of the Last 16. Inter Vs Liverpool Preview.

By: Rob | March 10th, 2008

Hold on to your hats people, we’re about to find out just who is going to join, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Roma, Barca, Fener and Shalke in the last 8 of Europe’s biggest competetion. Liverpool go into the game with a 2-0 lead after the appaling red card for The Matrix last time out. The San Siro can be pretty intimidating though, so anything can happen here.

Alonso and Kuyt look sad

Inter Milan Vs Liverpool

Billed As: The big battle between two of the biggest clubs in Europe

The First Leg Was: Dramatic. Inter started out OK, but then Matrix was sent off for Torres two dives and Inter decided they had better try and keep it 0-0. They did a bloody good job untill near the end when Kuyt and Gerrard respectively scored.

Since The First Leg: Liverpool have gone from strength to strength in the Premiership, seemingly scoring goals at will. Inter meanwhile have gone to pieces. Immediatly after the Liverpool game they came up against a fired up Roma, who should have beat them but for another terrible piece of referring (funny how things even out?) then went and lost to Napoli. They beat struggling Reggina at the weekend.

Key Players:

Torres celebrates ish
Ibro scores

Liverpool - Fernando Torres. He’s on absolute fire here, and he’s not phased by the big occasions. If he scores early inside the San Siro it will be game over.

Inter - Ibrahimovic. He started the season absolutely magnificently, and when he can be bothered, he is absolutely amazing to watch. He isn’t a lone striker as we learned in leg one, but if he can produce some magic, he can get Inter back into this tie.

Expect: It to all kick off. Its Inter’s 100 years and they are not going to want to drop out of the Champions League this way. The last time they won the title (1965) they lost 3-1 at Anfield but beat them 3-0 in the San Siro. A similar score will see them through again. I expect them to score, but a win is a big big ask.

Especially for Inter fans, that night in 1965

Especially for Liverpool fans, the first leg from that game in 65

Here’s hoping for an epic night!

Looks like I was right about Torres being the key man. Ibro looked class as well.

Wow. Four English teams, and a team each from Italy, Spain, Germany and… Turkey?

Yeah, pretty crazy isn’t it? But will we have an english winner again? There were 3 English sides in the last 4 last year, but Milan still won
