UEFA Refuse to rule out tragic anniversary game for Liverpool
By: Rob | February 19th, 2009
The 15th of April will be the the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, where 96 supporters died during an FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forrest in 1989. Liverpool traditionally hold a service to remember those lost on that day – just as Manchester United do on the anniversary of the Busby Babes Plane Crash.
However, if Liverpool overcomeReal Madrid, their Quarter Final could take place on the 15th of April. The club have pleaded with UEFA to move the fixture 24 hours, but the pleas have fallen on deaf ears, and the governing body have said they cannot promise anything.
Strikes me as a bit odd. The club only want to move the match by a day, so they aren’t trying to gain any sort of advantage, they literally are doing it because of a tragic tradition at the club.
The Premier League have previously moved encounters involving Liverpool on that date, notably the game against Blackburn three years ago.
Perhaps UEFA are waiting to see if Liverpool get through first, it’d be a real pity if they couldn’t manage it.

UEFA cant even make the promise now as a token gesture? any sort of “whole waiting to see if they advance” thing is idiotic!
What a real pity if this comes to fruition…
And Mr. Platini thinks Scousers are the worst people in Europe
