FifPro Team of the Year

By: Rob | October 27th, 2008

Team of the year? The Fifpro orginisation has announced its Team of the Year, as voted for by pro players across the world. They elected Cristiano Ronaldo as player of the season, and below you’ll find the team, as well as stats about the team and of course, as ever here at the Offside, the chance to be complain, talk and discuss who should have made the list.

Full team after the jump

Fifpro World Team of the Season 2007-8

Iker Casillas
Sergio Ramos
John Terry
Rio Ferdinand
Carlos Puyol
Steven Gerrard
Xavi
Ricky Kaka’
Leo Messi
Fernando Torres
Cristiano Ronaldo.

That midfield bothers me. Not really sure what Steven Gerrard has done to warrent being in there – he’s been good but one of the best three minfielders in the world? Don’t think so. Though he was voted into our Champions League Team of the Season. I’m not sure Kaka’ should make it either to be honest. Xavi however is a good call after his Euro’s performances – which might have got Andrei Arshavin a shout?

There’s also no left back. Ramos is a right back surely? Still, whatever.

That’s quite a forward line. Scary.

And does this mean the Lampard/Gerrard debate is solved?

Uggggghhhh. Find me a Chelsea fan (I am one myself) who thinks that John Terry > Ricardo Carvalho. Love the guy. Love him to DEATH, but come the hell on at this point.

Gerrard scored 21 goals and had 23 assist and you feel trouble with him being there? Sorry Rob, but you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Oh OK. I must have just imagined that he spent the summer sat on his arse, because he couldn’t be bothered to put in a performance for his country. While Xavi, Ineista, Arshavin and Fábregas looked class for their countries.

    Oh no wait.
